Faithful Family Activites for the Whole Family

It is important for families to spend quality time as a family while the kids are home for summer break, and as a family there are lots of opportunities to not only grow closer with each other, but also with God. Here are some fun faith-centered family ideas that will enrich the entire family in the Spirit.

Plan a Nature Day-

Gather the family together and enjoy a wonderful family picnic on a nice summer day, then go on a family nature walk or visit a nice swimming spot on a lake or in the woods to revel in God’s creation. Use this as a time to teach about appreciating the majesty of God’s creation.  I love to take the grandkids to the lake and we talk about all that God has created.

At home Bible games-

Play fun bible games like Bible Trivia or Bible Jeopardy with the kids.

Attend weekly church functions and activities as a family-

Church barbecues, Baptism ceremonies, Tent Revivals, Bible studies, and worship services that are outside of the weekly Sunday services are great ways to bond and grow in your faith as a family together. Check your church’s calendar to look for fun opportunities!

Plan a faithful movie night-

Get the popcorn and blankets, cuddle up in the AC, and watch an inspirational Christian movie with Pure Flix. It’s so hard to find content that is appropriate for the whole family, even when it is marked as “family-friendly” so enjoying content that doesn’t make you sacrifice your morals

Check with your local Christian Bookstore

Our local LifeWay Bookstore has some awesome family/kid friendly activities going on   They offer Saturday morning Story Time, a PreSchool Activities Day, another day is for Exploring the Bible.   Be sure to check with a LifeWay near you, or maybe there is another Christian book store near you. Check to see what they have going on for the summer months.

Rock Painting

Grab some flat rocks from your local hobby store and  paint them. You can do solid colors, or be creative and paint designs on them.  Once dried, put some stickers with your favorite Scriptures on the back, or paint your favorite verse.   Great activity to do with kids of all ages. Take the time to have the kids pray over the rocks as they are painting them.  Pray that whoever finds that rock, is blessed by the scripture that they have chosen for the rock. Then plan an evening or a day to go place them around town where people are going to find them.   We have left them in front of the Dollar Store, local park, etc.

Family Devotionals

Find a devotional that is age appropriate for your family.  You can do something simple and use the Bible App on your phone.  Maybe you prefer to be more hands on, there are a ton of things online you can print off for a family devotion.  The key is to show the family that God’s word comes alive when we study it.

Baking for others

Spend a day making some cupcakes  Once you are done, take it to your church and drop it off for your Pastor or Church Leaders as a thank you for all they do.  If you don’t have a church you attend on a regular basis , you can always use this as an outreach to local Fire Department. If you choose that route, have kids make little signs that say “Jesus loves you” , glue them to a toothpick and stick them in the cupcakes.
