Be Kind

“BE KIND”…….It sounds so easy to do !!  What  a POWERFUL statement!!   I want to explain to you why these particular words are so important to me .

I am a mom to 3 children and a Nana to 6 grandchildren, with 3 more grands on the way.  My theory as I was raising my own children, and now that I am raising my 2 older granddaughters has always been that you are ALWAYS Kind to others.   That doesn’t always mean others will be kind in return, however, we can only control who we are.  I am the first to admit, that can be a very challenging lesson to teach a child.    It begins when they are babies and we are teaching them to share their toys with other children, or even with us, as we get on the floor and play with them. read more

National Picnic Day

Did you know that today is National Picnic Day?

So FROG Reviews and Ramblings decided it was a perfect time to encourage you to grab the kids and family, and go find your favorite place to enjoy some precious time!!

A picnic can be an elaborate well planned thing with lots of home made goodies , or something simple you pick up on the way.   The key to me when I think of a picnic is just to get out and enjoy some well deserved time with your kids and/or grand kids!!!

I plan to celebrate the day with my granddaughters , kids and hubby.  (of course our “Fur Babies)    Sadly, based on our local weather forecast, we may have to have an indoor picnic, but the meaning will still be the same!  I am thinking a blanket on the floor, for the kids , and since Nana and Papa aren’t really able to get on the floor much these days, we may have to enjoy our “picnic” from the nearby couch or chair.   Family time and relaxation!! read more

National Siblings Day

SO TODAY IS  NATIONAL SIBLINGS DAY AND AS I SAT HERE AND THOUGHT ABOUT THE DAY, I HAD SO MANY THINGS COME TO MIND.

Of course, as a mom, my first thoughts were my own children and their siblings.    My next thought was my own brother and sisters.

I will start with my own brother and sisters.   Growing up, I was the middle child.   I have 5 older siblings , my older brother Billy and Ricky, my older sisters Adele,  Kathy and  Dorothy .   I also have 2 younger sisters , Nancy and Gayle.  Nancy and  I have always had a close relationship, and to this day we  still do.   I have a ton of memories as kids growing up, yet as I sit here and think about Siblings Day, it is our relationship that we have now that we have grown.   My brother Billy and I were very close, and I miss him constantly.  He passed away several years ago, and I still find myself when things get crazy in my life, wanting to pick up the phone and call my big brother.   He and I were what we always referred to as the black sheep in the family. My older sisters Kathy and Dorothy and brother Ricky,  I didn’t grow up with , yet in my mind and heart, they are as much my siblings as the ones I lived with growing up.   Sadly, my brother Ricky, I never had a chance to meet before he passed away.   My older sister Kathy, and I had a chance to develop a relationship before she passed away , and I will forever be grateful for those years.   My older sister Dorothy, is still alive, and although we seldom talk, we have the type of relationship that when we do talk, it is as if we haven’t missed a beat.   I love that her and I also have had a chance in our lives to become close at one time, and that no amount of years or distance will ever change that closeness we have.  I have always thought that her and I are very much alike, and it is kind of funny, since we didn’t really know each other until I was almost grown.  Then I have a younger sister, Gayle, that I finally got to know when she was about 17 and although we don’t talk often, I love her dearly. read more

Rain, Rain Go Away Blog Hop

There are a couple of amazing things I love about the month of April.   I love that it is the month that it finally starts to get warm!!  Here in Middle Tennessee, you will start seeing  beautiful yellow daffodils popping up on the roadside.   Everything starts to get green and is blooming.

Now the downside to all that is the rain….we have a ton of rain and usually that is accompanied by Thunderstorms!    I love a good thunderstorm, as long as it doesn’t come with any damaging winds. read more

Childhelp National Day of Hope

Today I write this post in honor of Childhelp National Day of Hope

To give you a little History on how this day came about

Childhelp National Day of Hope was designated by a Congressional resolution in 2000. Childhelp.org was founded by Yvonne Fedderson and Sara O’Meara who worked to bring this day and the victims it honors to light.

I am a grandmother to 8 children and mom to 3 of my own beautiful children. As most of you know from some of my previous posts, I am currently raising 2 of my oldest granddaughters.

A good friend of mine is also raising her grandchildren, and in addition to that, she has taken on the incredibly unselfish and loving role of a Foster Parent.   Over the years she has had several children come through her home, and they have come from all sorts of backgrounds and personal experiences.  I wish I could say that when a foster family brings a child into their home, that they will never have a child who has been abused in some way form of fashion, but sadly that isn’t the case.  I tell you all of this to let you know where my heart and passion is for this precious day,  CHILDHOOD NATIONAL DAY OF HOPE.    When I first read that title, there were a lot of things that ran through my mind, but the 1st and foremost was to spread hope and love to those children that might not otherwise receive it.   Children that have gone through abuse and/or neglect!! read more
